About me:
James is an Enterprise Ireland (EI) Commercialisation Specialist based in the TTO at NUI Galway. He works with the University research community and TTO colleagues to identify commercially relevant intellectual property (IP) arising from University biotechnology/life sciences research, and assists in its successful transfer to both national and international companies via a number of routes. As a member of the EI Biotechnology Commercialisation Group, he supports the EI Commercialisation Fund for life sciences at NUI Galway and connects funded projects to relevant supports and services, particularly those provided by Enterprise Ireland (EI).
James graduated with a B.Sc. (1st class Hon) in Microbiology from NUI Galway and a Ph.D. in Genetics from Imperial College, London. He has held a variety of research positions at the Dept. of Biochemistry, Oxford University, St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London and at the UK’s Medical Research Council’s Clinical Sciences Centre. In 2002 he was awarded a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Management from Queen Mary College, University of London. He also holds additional qualifications in patent and trade mark law. He then gained significant experience as a Technology Commercialisation Manager at Brunel, Sussex, and Surrey Universities and the associated NHS hospital trust where he managed biotechnology and environmental project commercialisation.
